Red, White and BOOM- 4th of July 2010

We had a blast on 4th of July this year! We went to Hood Stadium's Freedom Fest. We enjoyed the carnival atmosphere with booths, games, demonstrations and displays, and most importantly, carnival type food!!! The bonus, it was FREE. The bummer, it was like 1000 degrees!

In the early evening, they did a military style ceremony with the flags from the 50 states, a 50 gun (but really cannon) salute, a B-52 flyover and a Parachute jump. I have never seen such a patriotic 4th of July event, but didn't expect anything less. During it all, I kept thinking how much Dad W. would have loved the 1st CAV demonstrations, the ceremony, and the fireworks. During the grand finale, I was thinking how lucky he was to have such a great seat for those fireworks :) Kevin enjoyed the bomb sniffing dog demonstration and Kaylynn clapped at everything! We thought the cannons would scare her but she just clapped and laughed. I guess everything is amazing when you are 8 months old. She loved the music and all of the people. I think it ranks in her top 10 favorite events of all time...so far in her 8 months ;)

The highlights of the day were the Seether concert and half hour fireworks display. The concert was amazing and those guys are soooo good! The fireworks were spectacular! Poor tired Kaylynn fell asleep 5 minutes before her first fireworks started and slept right through the grand finale, which was complete with canons and everything. Luckily, when we got home our neighbors were still lighting theirs off and they were so neat. So, on her first 4th of July, she got to experience some fireworks after all! Here are some highlights from our day...
